Ubud Culture Tour
Goa Gajah Elephant Cave
Goa Gajah, or Elephant Cave, is located on the island of Bali near Ubud, in Indonesia. Built in the 9th century, it served as a sanctuary. The origins of the cave are uncertain; one folklore relates that it was created by the fingernail of the legendary giant Kebo Iwa. However, examining its style, the sanctuary was probably dated from the 11th
century Bali Kingdom. The complex contains both Hindu and Buddhist imagery, as the cave contains lingam and yoni, symbol of Shiva, and the image of Ganesha, while by the river there are carved images of stupas and chattra, imagery of Buddhism.
The cave was rediscovered by Dutch archaeologists in 1923, but the fountains and pool were not discovered until 1954.This site was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List on October 19, 1995, in the Cultural category.
Gunung Kawi
Gunung Kawi is an 11th-century temple and funerary complex in Tampaksiring[1]:180 north east of Ubud in Bali, Indonesia.,[2] that is spread across either side of the Pakerisan river. It comprises 10 rock-cut candi (shrines) that are carved into some 7-metre-high (23 ft) sheltered niches of the sheer cliff face. These funeral monuments are thought to be dedicated to King Anak Wungsu of the Udayana dynasty and his favourite queens. On the east side there are five temples that are dedicated, according to one theory, to King Udayana, his queen Mahendradatta, and their sons Airlanga, Anak Wungsu, and Marakata. The temples on the west side are dedicated, according to the same theory, to the king’s minor queens or concubines.
Inscription: on the north shrine (east side) a legible inscription reads: “Haji Lumahing Jalu,” meaning “the king made a temple here.
Kopi Luwak
Kopi luwak (Indonesian pronunciation: [ˈkopi ˈlu.aʔ]), or civet coffee, is coffee that includes part-digested coffee cherries eaten and defecated by the Asian palm civet(Paradoxurus hermaphroditus).[1] Fermentation occurs as the cherries pass through a civet’s intestines, and after being defecated with other fecal matter, they are collected.
Kintamani is a village on the western edge of the larger caldera wall of Gunung Batur in Bali, Indonesia. It is on the same north-south road as Penelokan and has been used as a stopping place to view the Gunung Batur region. Kintamani is also known for Pura Tuluk Biyu’s 1,000-year-old “Rites of Peace” stone tablets and the Kintamani dog.[1] It is situated next to Mount Batur.
Mount Batur(Gunung Batur) is an active volcano located at the center of two concentric calderas north west of Mount Agung on the island of Bali, Indonesia. The south east side of the larger 10×13 km caldera contains a caldera lake. The inner 7.5-kilometer-wide caldera, which was formed during emplacement of the Bali (or Ubud) ignimbrite, has been dated at about 23,670 and 28,500 years ago.
